NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. —— The quest continues!

Pasco Hernando State College continues to be searching for the first victory of the season, they are getting closer but they still have a lot of work to do.

State College of Florida – Manatee defeated Pasco Hernando State College 94-64, Wednesday night Nov. 6, handing the Bobcats their third defeat of the season and still looking for their first win.

Bobcat fans did get to see some improvement by the Bobcats in the first five minutes of the game but after that, it was the same thing that has been following the Bobcats on the court.

In those short minutes, the Bobcats looked like a college basketball team. Point guard Fernando Blanco dribbled the ball and brought it across mid-court. He looked over the defense, he glanced over at the Bobcats’ bench, he called a set play, and put the Bobcats’ offense in motion.

There was no basket scored but it was a recognizable half court offense set-it was a promising start for the Bobcats.

After the first five minutes, the Bobcats began to panic because some of the shots from the half court offense did not find the bottom of the basket.

The game suddenly became a mess for the Bobcats, it quickly became a runaway train and all that looked so promising for the Bobcats vanished. For fans that were in attendance all they could do was sit quietly and watch the destruction.

Pasco Hernando State College is a young team but some of the mistakes that were made on the court is concerning because they are repeated mistakes.

The effort is appreciated by Pasco Hernando State College basketball coach Micheal Jones and he said that his team just needs some time but they are getting better.

“A good effort, we have a lot of growing to do. We have got a lot of freshmen, our assists were better- still didn’t get the W!” Jones said. “However, we have guys that are on our bench that only get more minutes and get more experience. They got to get used to it, they have to get acclimated to college.”

Leading the Bobcats from the floor against the State College Florida-Manatee was forward Daniel Buchanan – Derice with 23 points he pulled down eight rebounds but he committed four turnovers.

Against the State College of Florida – Manatee, the Bobcats produced 22 turnovers. Turnovers occurred when Pasco Hernando State College was struggling to find somebody on the court to score a basket.

“The turnover will kill any team,” Jones said. “We got to do some better things like ball control, be fundamental, be confident and value the ball. If you don’t value the ball you can’t beat anybody!”

Pasco Hernando State College is averaging 23.7 turnovers per game. Jones said that for the Bobcats to score points, they must learn to value the ball.

When the offense can’t score a basket, the defense breaks down and then the Bobcats allow the opponents to get to the basket. So far this season after three games, the Bobcats have allowed 253 points that averages out 84.3 points per game.

PHSC lost on the road to St. Petersburg College on Saturday Nov. 9, 2019 with a final score of 65-91.

Jones just wants the Bobcats basketball fans to allow this team some patience and not to worry, Pasco Hernando State College is going to be alright-it just takes time.
