It a Wonderful Life Radio Show

Remember that old movie starring “James Stewart,” “Donna Reed” and “Lionel Barrymore” as the hateful Mr. Potter?  Once again Brooksville’s Live Oak Theatre is bringing back to the stage this beloved albeit quirky old-time classic titled: It’s a Wonderful Life Radio Show. This unique play within a play is absolutely amazing, comical, and an evening you will ponder happily for a long time.

Served with a twist of wry humor and double-entendre, this 1940s radio broadcast depiction will be presented on stage with dozens of talented cast members all dressed in traditional 1940s garb and fancy hairstyles;  all playing their parts convincingly, as remembered from the black and white movie produced so long ago. One of the most amusing sequences of the play is when a willing audience participant ad-libs his/her own rendition alongside the members of the cast.  Many of the improvisational bits can be incredibly creative and sometimes hysterical.

The storyline comes alive quickly as one envisions and absorbs the atmosphere of the 1940s, when George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) and his idealistic outlook on life, have him magically swept back in time to a world where he hasn’t even been born yet.

The Live Oak Theatre production is stocked full of live music of the 1940s, and fun memorable commercials from the early days of radio.  As the story unfolds one finds George on Christmas Eve, with his lovable angel escort for the night as he shows the bewildered man what life would be like if he did not exist.  Ultimately after a very dramatic whirlwind of calamities and out-of-body observations, George comes to the conclusion he has been all wrong about the real meaning of Christmas and begins to understand the true spirit of the holidays.
