COVID complications claim EMS driver engineer

Complications related to COVID-19 have claimed the life of Hernando County Fire & Emergency Services (HCEMS) Driver Engineer David Hackett. He was the son of retired HCEMS District Chief Dennis Hackett.

Hackett, 44 joined the EMS in 2002 and was promoted to Driver Engineer in 2013. He was currently serving at Fire Station #14.

David Hackett is survived by his wife Julie and two sons, Jacob 11, and Nicholas age 8.

“David dedicated his life to his family and the fire service,” said HCEMS Public Information Officer (PIO) Kenneth D. Wannen who announced Hackett’s passing. “Please keep his wife and children, as well the rest of his family, friends, and members of the fire service, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Information about funeral services will be released when arrangements are finalized, Warren said.
