Since 1986, Dawn Center Domestic and Sexual Violence Services has pursued and enacted its stated mission, “To break the cycle of domestic and sexual violence by providing supportive services and leadership that promotes social change.” And now, Dawn Center seeks the support of the community to continue serving people across the county that are in need of their services.

Community Engagement Coordinator of the Dawn Center, Ana Segovia stated, “Dawn Center is looking for volunteers. We are looking for volunteers that have an interest and a commitment for the welfare of others.” Dawn Center volunteers are asked to meet a few basic qualifications upon application. “The right candidates will be able to hold confidence and treat participants with dignity and respect, have the ability to communicate effectively and work with staff and other volunteers,” said Segovia. “All volunteers must be able to pass a background check.”

Volunteer opportunities available at Dawn Center include “Indirect Service,” in which volunteers assist with donation pickups, inventory, cleaning, property maintenance, clerical work, data entry, event planning/fundraising, event staffing, marketing, and more. Contact [email protected] or call 352-639-0892 to for more information.

“Direct Service” opportunities give volunteers the chance to assist advocates in working directly with survivors, offering transportation, individual and group support, life skills training, art and music classes, home skills, financial skills, exercise and mediation, and so much more. Specialized training is required to provide these more direct services at the center. Contact [email protected] or call 352-639-0892 to get more information.

“The benefits you will receive from volunteering with Dawn Center will be a sense of purpose as well as provide a sense of community,” said Segovia. “You will be able to meet new people and make friends with people who share your heart for helping others. You can learn new valuable skills while making a difference in a survivor’s life.”
