Notes from the Museums: Free Admission For Veterans

BNovember 11th is a special day to honor the service of military veterans. The museum association gratefully offers free admission to all three of the museum’s buildings for the days of Wednesday, November 13 through Saturday, November 16th. The military exhibit at the May-Stringer will be of particular interest to those who have served.

Originally known as Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I in 1918, the solemn recognition was celebrated by many nations starting in the following year. The name was changed by Congress in 1938. United States Army infantry members who were shipped overseas were referred to as doughboys, as they had been in the U.S. / Mexican conflict. An original doughboy uniform is on exhibit along with other uniforms at the May-Stringer House. Please take this opportunity to visit and thank you for your service, Veterans.
