A 20-year-old Brooksville man was arrested early Friday for driving under the influence after a Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy clocked him traveling nearly twice the speed limit on Mariner Boulevard.
According to the HCSO, Deputy A. Clayton was on proactive patrol around 12:50 a.m. when he observed a vehicle traveling 84 mph in a 45-mph zone. Clayton conducted a traffic stop in the area of Augustine Road and Everett Avenue in Spring Hill.
The driver, identified as Jackie Evans, 20, admitted to recently consuming alcohol. Clayton detected the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and Evans consented to field sobriety tests, which indicated impairment, authorities said.
Evans was arrested and taken to the Hernando County Detention Center, where his blood alcohol level tested at .117 percent. The legal limit for individuals under 21 is .02 percent.
Evans was charged with driving under the influence, and his bond was set at $1,000.
