Enchanted Weeki Wachee Preserve: Nature’s Therapy

From the Weekiwachee Preserve to the Withlacoochee State Trail, Hernando County has great areas for hiking, biking and walking. This is great news for the health of our residents and visitors. According to WedMD,

"Many health care researchers and practitioners say that ecotherapy (also known as green therapy, nature therapy, and earth-centered therapy) can have regenerative powers, improving mood and easing anxiety, stress, and depression.

But that’s not all. Health care providers are also giving their patients 'nature prescriptions' to help treat a variety of medical conditions, from post-cancer fatigue to obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes." {http://www.webmd.com/balance/features/nature-therapy-ecotherapy}

Our adventure led us to three enchanted and memorable areas within the Weekiwachee Preserve that could be your nature’s therapy.

Tree of Life
The first is the Tree of Life

The photo does not give this area justice. This tree is beautiful. Many memories must be held within this hundred year old tree. When you walk towards this big oak centered in the clearing, you feel so peaceful. Most of all, you feel in awe of just being in the presence of this tree. The beauty and essence along with the company of nature brings an inner peace as well as amazement.

The second is the Cypress Village.

Cypress Village
Just off the path one must stop and look. Clear and untainted water shows reflection of the Cypress trees throughout this part of the preserve. Cypress trees' knees scattered along the pond forms what could pass as villages. Layers and layers of leaves form a thick bedding upon the ground giving this place the most scenic and enchanted feel.

Birds' Landing

This is another beautiful clearing off the path. Gorgeous tall pine trees house this clearing. If you stand in the center of the clearing and close your eyes, the only noise you hear are the Palm Warblers and other birds chirping, just peaceful. The Palm Warblers are beautiful little birds as well as a delight to watch.

Nature therapy is a way all of us can re-connect. Whether that be in exercising, stress release or just stopping to take a moment to see what nature gives us and to understand why we should protect it. For some this is the best medicine to heal.

There is no cost to go hiking, biking or go for a walk in the preserve. What is important is what you are feeling when you enter and how you feel when you exit.
