(Brooksville, FL) Feb. 25, 2018 at 4:23 p.m., Hernando County Fire Rescue(HCFR) received reports of a brush fire at 4370 Neff Lake Rd, a rural area of Hernando County. Initial reports were that several structures and a vehicle was on fire from a fast-moving brush fire.
The initial arriving Fire/Rescue unit on scene reported a working fire with a mobile home involved in fire. The mobile home was determined to be unoccupied. The fire had also spread to a utility shed, a recreational vehicle, a car and was spreading into nearby woods. HCFR crews worked quickly to contain the fire, which was estimated to be approximately 2 – 5 acres at that time. The Florida Forest Service(FFS) was requested to assist with the brush fire and containment. The FFS responded with 3 dozers and an area supervisor. Neff lake road was subsequently closed to traffic. There have been no reported injuries to civilians or fire service personnel.
The fire is currently reported to be 100% contained at approximately 7 acres. Crews from HCFR and the FFS continue their efforts to extinguishing the remaining hotspots within the containment area. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
HCFR responded with 3 fire engines, 3 brush units, 3 water tankers, 1 rescue, 2 Battalions Chiefs and a Division Chief for a total of 19 personnel. The FFS responded with 3 Forestry Bulldozers and an Area Supervisor. The Hernando Sheriff’s Traffic Aides responded for traffic control. The Hernando County Fire Corp responded for responder rehabilitation.
