Hernando Bar 5k

This year was the 5th annual Hernando Bar 5k. Erin Daly, a state attorney, has been organizing the Hernando Bar 5k for all five years. She said, "I hope one day I can actually run in the race, although I have run the course hundreds of times already."

Last year they had a fun run but this year they added a 10k race, so runners have the option of 5k or 10k. In the 5k and 10k combined, there were about 300 runners participating.

Also this year they added a category of winners devoted to the fastest lawyers. The fastest lawyer winner, Laura Cole, ran in the 10k and is an ironman competitor as well as a triathlete. She finished the 10k in 46 minutes and 12 seconds.

The money from the race goes to provide scholarships for Hernando County students interested in law careers. This year they were able to increase the total of the scholarships given from $2000 to $5000. There is the Hernando County Bar Association $1,000 Undergraduate Scholarship which is given to a Hernando County resident student attending any Florida College or University.
