The Tampa Bay Rays fired their team doctor on Tuesday, after videos surfaced on YouTube showing a woman accusing him of sexual assault.
Dr. Michael Reilly, who has been with the Rays since their inception, is accused of sexually abusing a woman between eight and 10 years ago starting when she was a teenager. The abuse is said to have lasted for three years while she was an employee of Reilly’s medical practice.
John Higgins, the Rays’ senior vice president of administration and general counsel released a statement on the matter.
“We have very recently become aware of a video accusing Dr. Reilly of sexually abusing a former employee of his medical practice. We have ended our contractual relationship with him, and we have also alerted the St. Petersburg Police Department and Major League Baseball of this situation,” Higgins said.
The St. Petersburg Police Department has opened an investigation into the matter.
