If you've never played golf before, Rivard is a great place to start. Although a standard length course, there are no sand traps and the greens are small and relatively flat. With plenty of trees and a few water hazards, regular and low-handicap players will still find Rivard to be a challenge. Above all, you’ll find a friendly staff and pleasant golfers.
Rivard is a public golf course within the subdivision of the same name located between South Brooksville and Masaryktown. Recent improvements to the fairways and greens give the course a new vibrancy, and new gas-powered carts move you along at an energetic pace. The clubhouse has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and offers beer, wine and soft drinks, as well as hot dogs and other quick bites.
Rivard insignia hats and visors are available at the check-in area, however no other apparel or shoes are for sale. Necessities are available, such as tees, divot tools and experienced golf balls. Club rentals are also available.
After some cold weather, the greenery all-around is a bit dry, but the staff at Rivard have really looked after the greens. A few have some dry spots, but one rainy day should take care of those.
Speaking of the greens, you’re in for a challenge! Rivard is an excellent course to practice your short game. Although the greens are small, and not undulating, but some have interesting breaks that will challenge you to tap that ball with precisely the right speed. Just a smidge too hard or soft, and you’ve earned an extra putt.
If you find you’re three-putting more than usual, don’t worry. Regular Rivard golfers are friendly and understanding, if not sympathetic. Invite them to play through, and you may meet a new friends, or at least see an encouraging smile.
At the 19th hole, you can expect more camaraderie as fellow players share their stories of the day over pitchers of domestic drafts, which are also available in cans and bottles. Rivard’s staff will easily join you in conversation (and probably sympathize) because they’re golfers too. The spacious clubhouse has seating for an entire league, with patio tables available overlooking the 18th green.
