County and School District approve funding for additional SROs

Sheriff Al Nienhuis, School Board Chairman Mark Johnson, Dr. Lori Romano School District Superintendent and Capt. Harold Hutchinson Jr. who oversees the SRO Unit in attendance at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Feb. 26, 2018 to finalize additional SRO funding.

On Feb. 27, the BOCC approved funding for the immediate addition of 10 School Resource Officers, a SRO Sergeant, a floating SRO and a SRO Training Officer through September 30, 2018 (Remaining amount of the County's Fiscal Year). They gave approval contingent on the school district funding 50% of the $887,107 expense, which was approved unanimously by the School Board during a packed regular meeting later that day.

Possible Civil War munition found in Spring Hill

On Monday Feb. 26, 2018 a homeowner on Oakridge Drive called the Sheriff’s Office to report an object he found while digging in his yard. Deputies identified it as a possible munition and called the Citrus County Bomb Squad and Macdill Air Force Base for assistance.

The individual from MacDill AFB indicated the object may have possibly been a munition from the Civil War era and removed it.

During the Civil War, known conflicts in Hernando County include the Battle of Bayport and the Brooksville Raid.

Easy Crockpot Spare Ribs

Ingredients

3 lbs country style spareribs
¾ cup ketchup
2 tbsp chopped onions
3 tbsp brown sugar
½ tsp salt
1 ½ tbsp
1 ½ tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp mustard

Directions

First bake ribs in 400 oven for 15 minutes on each side.
Then place ribs in crockpot
in bowl mix all ingredients together and pour over ribs.
Cook on LOW heat setting 6 to 8 hours

HOUSE TO SUBPOENA INFORMATION IN SCHOOL SHOOTING

TALLAHASSEE --- The state House is preparing subpoenas demanding information from five South Florida government agencies about the confessed killer of 17 people at a Parkland high school in an investigation that will run separate from a review ordered by Gov. Rick Scott.

The House investigation comes amid continued calls by Speaker Richard Corcoran, R-Land O’ Lakes, and other Republican lawmakers for Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel to be suspended from office.

Last Friday night, Nature Coast defeated in-county rival Central to clinch their seventh district championship under head coach Dave Pisarcik. Entering yet another FHSAA regional tournament, the Sharks had the benefit of being able to host the first round on their court per FHSAA bracketing procedures. Their opponent in the first round was the Zephyrhills Bulldogs, a team that has history with NCT due to previously being in the same district for a several years and famously defeating the Sharks a few years ago on said court en route to a state semifinal appearance.

Fire Destroys a Mobile Home, Several Vehicles and Several Utility Sheds in Rural Hernando County.

HCFR NEWS RELEASE

(Brooksville, FL) Feb. 25, 2018 at 4:23 p.m., Hernando County Fire Rescue(HCFR) received reports of a brush fire at 4370 Neff Lake Rd, a rural area of Hernando County. Initial reports were that several structures and a vehicle was on fire from a fast-moving brush fire.

SCOTT ORDERS FDLE TO INVESTIGATE SHOOTING RESPONSE

TALLAHASSEE --- Gov. Rick Scott on Sunday directed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to “immediately” investigate the response of law-enforcement authorities to the mass shooting this month that killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

The directive came as House Speaker Richard Corcoran, R-Land O’ Lakes, sent a letter requesting that Scott suspend Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel. The letter, which was joined by 73 Republican House members, came a day after Rep. Bill Hager, R-Delray Beach, called for Israel’s removal.
