SWFWMD engineer: Withlacoochee gauges dropping upstream, but rainfall deciding factor on flood levels

SWFWMD (Southwest Florida Water Management District) Senior Professional Engineer Mark Fulkerson, Ph.D., P.E presented to the Board of County Commissioners at the regular meeting on August 28, 2018 the current condition of the Withlacoochee River, and gave some insight on its history, impacts of seasonal rainfall, and flooding considerations for the future.

Access Health Care Physicians, LLC, Issues Statement About Rashid Ismail Saba, MD

On Aug. 22, 2018 local doctor Dr. Rashid Ismail Saba was arrested and charged with dating violence.   Dr. Saba was employed by Access Healthcare and served as their Chief of Medicine at Oak Hill Hospital.

HCSO says that an investigation began in July revealed that Saba “pushed, grabbed, and shook the victim, against her will, while he was on duty as a physician at Oak Hill Hospital.  During this altercation, the victim sustained bruising to her forearm.”

HCSO Deputies Exposed to Unknown Substance during Search of Spring Hill Residence

On 8-30-18 at approximately 7 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff's deputies responded to 7031 Holiday Drive in Spring Hill in an attempt to serve a felony warrant.

Deputies encountered two individuals at the house who gave deputies permission to search the residence.

Once inside, deputies were exposed to an unknown substance in the air and immediately exited the residence.

The two individuals found inside the residence were detained by law enforcement.
Deputies were unable to locate the wanted person inside the residence.

Alleged Bomb Threat at Chocachatti Turns Out to be Misunderstanding

On 8-30-18, at approximately 5:32 p.m., the director of the YMCA after school program at Chocachatti Elementary School contacted the Hernando County Sheriff's Office in reference to a parent who allegedly made reference to a bomb at the school.

At this time of day the school was closed with the gate down when the parent and YMCA representative had contact at the front of the school.

The parent told the YMCA representative that he missed picking up his child at the bus stop and was waiting for the bus to return to the school so he could pick up the child.

Deputy Shoots, Kills Pit Bull that Attacked Fellow Deputy

On 8-30-18 at approximately 4:48 p.m., a bus driver, with the Hernando County School District, contacted the Sheriff's Office in reference to a student who had allegedly battered the bus driver.

Deputies responded to the residence of the student on Seybold Drive in Spring Hill.

As deputies spoke to family members, deputies observed a pit bull inside the residence.

When the pit bull began to act aggressively toward the deputies, a family member placed the pit bull in the garage so deputies could continue their investigation.
