Aaron Jack Smith, Jr, 62, son of Jack Smith,Sr and Martha Stephens Smith, died on Feb.17,2019 @Memorial Hospital in Jax,Fl. Born Sept 1,1956,he resided in Brooksville until age 48. He had spent last 13 yrs in FL DOC. He is survived by a brother,William S Smith(Debbie) of Brooksville, 2 sisters,Cheryl Smith(Sorrow),Greenwood,SC,Rhoda Mercer(Thomas) of McMinville,TN, brother-n-laws:Steve Sorrow, & Kenneth Brown. Nieces:Sarah Rambaran,Cassandra Hall,Melinda Welch(Bobby),Stacey Bond(Devon).Nephews Stephen J.

Jackie Wilson was nine years old when his father died and eleven when his older brother died. He was close to his father and the brother he lost was the one who taught him basketball. He was hurt and angry at the whole world. Fortunately, not far from his home in Jersey City, New Jersey, was a boxing club and there, Jimmy ‘The Cat’ Dupree, took young Jackie Wilson under his wing and mentored him.

Tanker Fire I 75 to SR 52

Due to a tanker fire on northbound I-75 at SR-52 (MM275), the interstate was briefly closed in both directions.  The fire has been extinguished by fire rescue, the result of a fuel line that caught fire on an empty natural gas tanker.  All directions of I-75 are OPEN.   However, the exit ramp from northbound I-75 to SR-52 will remain closed

Hernando Kids Compete in Nature Coast Taekwondo Championship.

Local Hernando County students from Taekwondo America and Warriors Martial Arts competed in the 2019 Nature Coast Taekwondo Championship at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School in Spring Hill on Saturday, February 15.

Martial art students had trained for months to prepare for this event by focusing on their forms, kicking, balance and performance.
