Future plans for Uptown Market

During the Sept. 16th, 2019 Brooksville City Council meeting Rory Steele with Destination Brooksville reported on the Uptown Market (Market) pop-up markets that have been held thus far and on the future plans for the market. The pop-up market has been held seven (7) times, occurring the second and fourth Saturday of each month. The Markets are open from 8A.M. to 12P.M.

Brooksville Main Street program funding tabled for attorney meeting

BROOKSVILLE- During the Sept. 4, 2019 Brooksville City Council meeting, the city council earmarked $45,000 to the Brooksville Vision Foundation (Foundation) for Fiscal Year 19-20 with the purpose of operating the Brooksville Main Street program. The Vision Foundation has helped with the operation of Brooksville’s Main Street program since 2017.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) began law enforcement operations in the City of Brooksville (City) June 1st, 2018. On Sept. 16th, 2019 Lt. John McMurdo, HCSO, presented a review of the first year of service to the City. Lt. McMurdo expressed gratitude toward Mr. Kutney, City Manager, for his role in the smooth transition. Following this, Lt. McMurdo explained that the data to be presented had been collected through the sheriff’s office’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD).

Fatal Hernando Crash/9/27/19 Shoal LIne Blvd.

At 11:15 AM on 9/27/19 on Shoal Line Blvd. and Hushpuppy Lane a 2000 Honda Motorcycle, driven by Jeremiah James Johnson, 40 of Spring Hill lost control of his vehicle. He was traveling northbound on Shoal Line Blvd.approaching Hushpuppy Lane at a high rate of speed, passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone, and performing wheelies. Mr. Johnson then lost control of the motorcycle and traveled into the southbound lane. He then collided with a guardrail and a signpost. He was transported to Bayonet Point hospital and later expired from his injuries he sustained during the crash. Mr.

Joseph W. Deshaies, 86
of Spring Hill, Florida passed away August 18, 2019, Joseph was a United States Navy Veteran. He is survived by four sons, Bradford, Mark, Stephen, and Kevin; Sisters, Angel and Rita; Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Joseph (Willie/Bogy Joe) had a love for golf, bowling, and tossed his way to be a Florida State Horseshoe Champion. Papa Joe will be missed.

New inductees to Hernando High Athletic Hall of Fame

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. --- Hernando High School’s gym had its party face on, Thursday Sept. 19, as the place looked so different, it really does clean up nice.

There was just enough light in the gym to create the atmosphere, the dinner was prepared and served by the students of the Hernando High School Culinary Arts Department and some of the musical entertainment was provided by the Hernando High School Chorus.

This year, the Hall of Fame Committee inducted nine former Hernando High School athletes and one team to be enshrined inside the Hernando High School Hall of Fame.
