Detectives Investigating Domestic Violence Homicide

On 10-29-19 at 11:03pm, an operator in the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center answered a 9-1-1 call from a male who stated that he just killed his wife with a firearm.

Deputies and Hernando County Fire Rescue were immediately dispatched to the scene in Ridge Manor Estates.

The caller, Todd Belville, provided his name and address to the operator.

Belville told the operator the gun was put away, and that he had been drinking beer, and shot his wife because they had gotten into an argument.

Springstead falls on the road 26-21 to Lake Minneola

CLERMONT- Two schools were looking to make history in last Friday’s Class 6A, District 5 championship between Lake Minneola and Springstead. 

For Lake Minneola, they were looking to do something the football program has never done before and that was to win a district championship. The Hawks at home knew the pressure was on to win the football program’s first ever district crown against an 8-0 Eagles’ team. 

County mourns loss of Longtime Sports Reporter Castro

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. A common cliché to be sure, but one Tony Castro busted out often when it came to his approach to reporting. 

Over the past two decades, where there was a story or an event related to Hernando County athletics, more often than not there was Tony Castro. 

Castro, a longtime local sports reporter, passed away over the weekend, at age 61. Though he had privately battled health issues over the past couple years, his death stunned the community.

NCT volleyball advances to regional semifinal

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. ---- It was emotional, there was plenty of drama and it was everything a regional quarter final volleyball tournament game could offer to the very loud crowd inside the gymnasium on the campus of Nature Coast Tech High School to enjoy.

Facing their in-county rival Weeki Wachee High School at home, Thursday October 24, the Sharks put together a combination of great rallies, well-played defense and defeated the Hornets 3-1, ending the Weeki Wachee High School volleyball season.

Hernando Christian Academy ranked #2 in region 2 six man varsity football

Hernando Christian Academy 6-man football team is currently 7-1 in their 2019 season, and according to the stats on MaxPreps, they’re ranked at #2 under Donahue Catholic. 

Catching up on away games; On October 11 HCA won against Old Plank Christian Academy 57-6 and an October 18 their win against Geneva Classical Academy 48-6 began HCA’s road to victory.
