Hernando County Loses a True Renaissance Man

Dozens of local people were saddened to hear the news that beloved author, actor, playwright, blogger, and storyteller Jerry Cowling passed away on December 26, 2020, after a brief hospital stay. The cause of death was sepsis as a result of a gastrointestinal infection. Cowling is survived by his son, Joshua of Spring Hill; his daughter, Heather Cowling Dobkowski; son-in-law Anthony and grandchildren Olivia and Liam Dobkowski of Wappingers Falls, New York. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 44 years, Janet.   

Have a Laugh to Support Veterans

Many good laughs are sure to be had at the Veterans HEAT Factory Fundraiser, set for 7 p.m. Saturday, January 30, at the VFW Post 10209, 14376 Edward Noll Drive, Spring Hill.

Opening with a spirited performance by Elliott Smith and his comedy magic, the show's main attraction will be "The Comedy Time-Tunnel" presented by Tony Belmont, founder of the National Comedy Hall of Fame Museum and veteran Broadway show promoter. 

DOH-Hernando to Offer COVID-19 Vaccinations for Seniors Starting January 4, 2021

Brooksville- On Monday, January 4, the Florida Department of Health in Hernando County (DOH-Hernando) will begin offering the COVID-19 vaccine to adults age 65 and older. Vaccine supply is limited and will be offered by appointment only.

There will be no cost for COVID-19 vaccines offered by DOH-Hernando.

Tampa Bay beats Detroit to clinch playoff berth

DETROIT- It has been 13 years since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have last reached the playoffs and Saturday afternoon, they had their first opportunity to clinch a berth in the 2020 postseason. The Buccaneers made sure to not disappoint, as they received another big day from quarterback Tom Brady and rolled to a 47-7 victory over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.

Lobbyists: online sales tax measure would be a boon for county

At the December 15, 2020 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) Meeting, the board heard from the county’s lobbyists, Shawn Foster of the Sunrise Consulting Group and Laura Boehmer of The Southern Group, with discussion focused on the upcoming legislative session. 
The recent designation of the Aquatic Preserve along Hernando’s coast, an outcome of the 2020 session and CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act Funding were briefly mentioned.
