BOCC denies rezoning for apartment building near Timber Pines

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) unanimously voted down a request for rezoning by Roundstone Development to build an apartment complex on property bordering the northeast corner of Trenton Avenue and Forest Road.  The Planning And Zoning Commission voted 5-0 to deny the petition.  Following the planning and zoning decision, Roundstone submitted a formal request on July 12, 2021, to reduce the number of units from 80 to 72.  

Brooksville council passes fire assessment resolution

Property owners in Brooksville will see their fire assessment rates increase after the City Council voted to approve a resolution raising funding for fire protection services and facilities. The panel voted to approve the resolution during its Aug.16 meeting.

Currently, the fire assessment rate for a residential property is $164.5957.

The FY 2021-2022 rates for the Fire Protection Assessments for a residential single-unit dwelling is $169.5336.

Dennis H Wilfong, local business man and humanitarian, passes away

Dennis was born in Steubenville, Ohio on February 19, 1947.   He peacefully passed into Heaven on August 26, 2021, at age 74. His cause of death was COVID-19.

Dennis grew up and spent most of his young adult life in New Manchester, WV. He graduated from Oak Glen High School, received a Doctor of Humane Letters from West Liberty State College, WV, and a Doctorate of Divinity from the International Institute & Seminary. Besides working in Weirton Steel, he volunteered in the community in many positions, including becoming Fire chief in New Manchester.
