On January 12, 2021 the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will hear a request by developer D. Dewey Mitchell to approve a revised Master Plan to allow for 234 homesites to be built north of Village Van Gogh.  The property is located at the northern terminus of Fenian Drive, eastern terminus of Killian Street and south side of Highgrove Road.

Several residents in the area are resistant to this new development, and at least 45 have signed a petition against it.

The Hernando County Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-1 to approve the revisions from a 2018 Master Plan revision.  This petition seeks a decrease in lot sizes and an increase in the number of homesites, and addition of a fence.  Previous approval was for 200 homesites consisting of 174 65-foot lots and 26 75-foot lots.  Should the petition pass BOCC approval, a total of 234 homesites: 33 50-foot lots, and 201 60-foot lots will be allowed.

The new petition also specifies that lots bordering existing homes will be 60-feet wide as opposed to the previously approved 75-foot wide lots. The 50-foot wide lots will be located within the interior of the project.

A decision by the Board of County Commissioners is expected at the Jan. 12 regular meeting and The Hernando Sun will report on any further developments.
