At 3:32 AM on June 9, 2021 Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 8501 Philatelic Road in Spring Hill, the address for a U.S. Post Office facility.   The complaint came in about a  7-foot alligator “roaming the lobby area.”

The alligator was observed by a patron who came to the post office to mail a package. This post office location features automatic double doors that allow entrance into the lobby.  A trapper joined the first responders and removed the alligator from the post office lobby.

None of the parties commented as to why the gator was at the post office at such an early hour, but we assume he was arrested for violation of Florida Statute 810.08 (Trespass of a Structure).  Federal charges could be pending as preventing individuals from obtaining their mail is a violation of 18 U.S. Code, section 1703.
