Cemex employee rescued from elevator at cement plant

(Brooksville, FL) at 3:15pm today Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to the Cemex Plant at 103111 Cement Plant Rd. in Brooksville, after receiving reports of a man trapped in an elevator. The caller stated that an elevator had a malfunction causing the elevator to drop several floors. The elevator was trapped between floors and the man could not exit.
HCFR arrived on scene and determined that the man did not sustain any injuries but was trapped. The elevator was stuck approximately 145 feet above ground. Members of the HCFR Technical Rescue Team (TRT) responded and performed a high angle rope rescue of the trapped employee. The man was able to be rescued successfully without sustaining any injuries. The employee was able to return to work after the incident.
HCFR responded to the scene with 1 fire engine, one ladder truck, one rescue, two Battalion Chiefs and the HCFR TRT with a total of 9 personnel.
