Commissioners request modifications to Village Van Gogh II development plan

Because some nearby residents oppose the development, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted unanimously to modify a plan to develop a 3-parcel area in Spring Hill, presently termed “Village Van Gogh II.”

The proposed development is located North of the Village Van Gogh community, at the Northern terminus of Fenian Drive, Eastern terminus of Killian Street, and south side of Highgrove Road approximately 260′ from the western terminus.

The Hernando County Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-1 to approve a total of 234 homesites: 33, 50-foot lots and 201, 60-foot lots.  During the Jan. 12, 2021 regular commission meeting, Commissioner Jeff Holcomb motioned to modify the plan, changing 60-foot lot sizes on the southern and eastern borders to 70-foot lots, and changing some to 50-foot lots in the southwest corner.  Holcomb’s compromise may reduce the number of homesites. The plan will go back to Coastal Engineering to apply the changes and the board will hear the topic again when the modifications are completed.

Coastal Engineering also presented plans for natural buffering with pines, oaks, and cedars.
