November 14 event at university, open to the public, admission is free

ST. LEO – The Saint Leo University Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies invites the public and the media to attend a dialogue on anti-Semitism in the United States today, to be held Wednesday, November 14, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in TECO Hall in the Tapia College of Business Building. The campus is located at 33701 State Road 52, St. Leo, FL, 33574.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the campus garage.
Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies (CCJS) Director Matthew Tapie will facilitate the conversational session with Rabbi Jason Rosenberg of Congregation Beth Am in Tampa. Tapie is also an assistant professor of theology at Saint Leo University. The event is meant as an educational response to the murder of 11 congregants of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 27. The CCJS is committed to promoting mutual respect, knowledge, and understanding through dialogue, study, and teaching. It was founded at Saint Leo University in 1998.
Saint Leo University and CCJS leadership have publicly condemned the synagogue attack and have made statements of support and solidarity to the congregation targeted and to all of the Jewish faith. Saint Leo University President Jeffrey Senese’s statement to the university community says, in part: “I implore each of us to continue to reach out to our Jewish brothers and sisters, to hold them in esteem, our warm embrace, and to offer the victims and families our prayers, as we work with them and others to build a more peaceful society.”  Additionally, CCJS Director Tapie wrote: “The attack is an assault on our Jewish brothers and sisters, the American tradition of religious freedom, and our shared human dignity.”
For more information on the event, or for special accommodations for parking, contact Jennifer “Megan” Orendorf at Saint Leo at (352) 588-8041 or by email at [email protected].

United Way of Hernando County Releases “Change For Good: Dollar Campaign”

Spring Hill, FL –  It’s been proven throughout history that communities accomplish more when working together and that true change doesn’t happen alone. That’s exactly why United Way of Hernando County is changing it up. Your local United Way is launching their first ever “Change for Good: Dollar Campaign” this fall. Beginning in November, United Way will be challenging every man, woman, and child here in Hernando County to donate $1.00. That’s only 1 dollar bill, 4 quarters, or even 100 pennies from each community member. With over 180,000 residents living in Hernando, the United Way could raise over $180,000 if every resident did their part and gave just one dollar.

Be ready to “Accept the Challenge” this November, December, and January. Donations collected do not leave Hernando County and services impacted range from early education all the way to crisis prevention. United Way continues to raise awareness for local initiatives that fall under health, education, and financial stability. Although this residential effort has a campaign goal, the driving force continues to be the number of lives impacted by individual contributions. With United Way serving over 39,000 lives last year alone, they are determined to help those who need them the most. Are you ready to be a part of positive change?

United Way is making it simple to give by accepting your dollar through PayPal, Venmo, Credit Card, Cash, or Check. Make checks payable to United Way of Hernando County and mail to 4028 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, FL 34606.

Visit www.UnitedWayHernando.org/Dollar to join the movement and give your dollar.
