For those who love the musical arts, Brooksville Main Street will be presenting Courthouse Live, a live music event set to take place 6-8 pm every Friday night at 20 N. Main Street, in Historic Downtown Brooksville. There are a few exceptions of 2021 Friday Night Live dates (September 10th, October 8th, and November 12th) when the festivities shift to Hernando Park.

The next Courthouse Live will be presented May 21, when soft rock and soul singer Shawn Scheller will take the stage. This will be a solo performance for Scheller, a performer with popular area bands.

“Shawn Scheller & The Contenders are a diverse 6-piece dance, rock, and soul band from Tampa Bay, FL. The group, formed in 2016 by Scheller and Scott Lockhart while on hiatus from Billboard charting alt-rock act Save The Radio,” read a bio provided by Shawn Scheller.

On May 28, Hernando’s Almost Better Than Nothing will perform. “We are an all acoustic band. We play primarily classic rock tunes with a mix of some current,” said lead singer Jeff Demars. “We are a 3 piece band, two acoustic guitars and a Cajun box drummer. We cover multiple artists such as the Grateful Dead, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Don Henley, Hall and Oates, Elton John, Joe Cocker, etc., etc…” Other band members are Justin Tyner, lead guitarist, Jack Lucas, percussion.

Brooksville Main Street is seeking additional musicians to fill out the summer schedule of Courthouse Live; family friendly musical acts that could perform any of a spectrum of musical styles perfect for a smaller setting, including jazz, country, pop and soft rock.  This is a paid performance; musicians and bands interested in playing at Courthouse Live should complete a musician/band submission form located on the downtown Brooksville website. All acts will supply all of their sound needs, Main Street supplies the venue to perform on the courthouse steps, as well as promotion for the act.

Aside from enjoying live music, Courthouse Live guests are encouraged to explore the Florida Mermaid Trail, visit Main Street shops, and grab a meal to go at a downtown restaurant, or at the food truck, set to serve goodies like pizza and dessert due to be posted at future events. They may bring a chair from home, or can dine beneath the oaks at newly placed picnic tables at the historic courthouse. One full food and one snack/dessert vendor will be reserved each Friday during Courthouse Live. Email Tina Marie Polson, Events & Marketing Coordinator directly at [email protected] to express interest in booking for Courthouse Live.

“We are currently waiving vendor fees for this brand new growing event. Come and be part of the energy we are bringing to downtown,” Polson wrote.

Driving this energy will be the timeless cadence of rhythmic, family-friendly music. “The Courthouse Live series will feature a variety of music perfect for a relaxing, intimate environment. It will be a concert feel,” said Natalie Kahler, Executive Director of Brooksville Main Street. A concert feel that is perfect for the whole family. “This is going to be the type of event where you see kids playing in the grass. The family event offered all summer long,” she said. Polson agreed, “We can make plans, hold events, create beautiful spaces. But without the public, there is nothing. Our purpose is, and will always be about revitalizing this community. Finding unique ways you can gather, just like our Courthouse Live. It’s so much more than a free concert. Friends. Family. Neighbors. Reconnecting. Enjoying a laugh. Sharing a meal.  Taking in our one of a kind shops. Building a community that believes in Brooksville. Creating memories that will last a lifetime,” she said.
