Got hit hard.

DUNEDIN, Fla. — Well got hit hard, so very hard by a virus that hit so hard but not hard enough (that’s good!).

Recuperating from a serious bug that’s only job was to finish me off, but with the hard work of the doctor, medicine and what the doctor described as a “tough old bird!” he says, “I am going to make it!”

Trying to beat away this virus, there were some things that were missed on the road to recovery.

Like, Nature Coast Tech High School basketball, with an outstanding offense from Springstead High School basketball team and Unique Torain. Missed Saint Leo University basketball march toward a good seed in the Sunshine State Conference, the Lions’ maintenance had to change the nets inside Marion Bowman Activities Center as the Lions scorched them and dismissed Barry University.

The wrestling at Springstead High School as they continue to grapple with the wrestling season and find their way in the state of Florida Wrestling Tournament.

What is happening at Hernando High School basketball?

The same old story, win some and lose the ones that the Leopards should have won!

Can’t forget the best basketball team in the county, Hernando Christian Academy girl’s basketball team that is still undefeated after 12 games before tasting the bitterness of defeat.

Congratulations to Hernando Christian Academy girl’s basketball team head coach Mark Drummond guiding his team to 20-1. The only loss came against Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, on a chilly Jan. 9 at home in the Lion’s Den 56-42, but the question remains: Is this the best basketball team in the Hernando County?

It sure does look like it, 20-1 is a marvelous record, no matter if it’s a boys or girls basketball team, there are plenty of teams that wish to 20-1!

Junior forward Esther Jackson played all 20 games and she led her team from the floor with 16.2 points per game.

Next season, the Lions will be even better than this year with a group that is ready to make the next step from the junior varsity up to the varsity team.

In the county the best player with skills from the floor but also inside the locker room is Springstead High School Unique Torain. He is only a junior, but his skills as a team leader are important. He leads by example. For example if a teammate is on the floor, he is the first to help that teammate up from the floor- complete with words of encouragement.

Torain’s 20.8 points a game is just a part of his game that gives Springstead High School basketball coach Matthew McGarry no worries, he is the first to point out that, it is Torain helping his teammates and that makes this team complete.

Springstead High has the special ingredient that every coach needs to have, if his team is to succeed on the court and that is team chemistry.

That chemistry creates a team’s personality and reflects the coaches personality.

Nature Coast Tech High School is a team that can create excitement during the game, but Sharks basketball coach Dave Pisarcik keeps waiting for his team to have that one thing –  chemistry!

The difference between the Sharks and the Eagles is simple!

Springstead never stops talking to each other, where the Sharks are very quiet and that creates another picture.

Are the Sharks enjoying the game?

There is no doubt that the Eagles are enjoying the game – they never shut up – that is good!

Just a little over three weeks to go in the regular season and then the excitement of the state of Florida High School Basketball Tournament.

Nature Coast Tech High School will take their game on the road, a short trip down I-75 to the home of the Wildcats in Wesley Chapel along with the other members of 4A District 8.

After I’m fully recovered, I will be there inside the gym at Wesley Chapel High School to cover Nature Coast Tech’s drive toward the District 8 Title!

One more note!

Thank you to all of my friends at the Hernando Sun, especially to the best person with a camera, all of my friends and family for the prayers!

The guess is that the Chief Editor of this story upstairs in the newsroom beyond the clouds didn’t have room at a desk-just yet!

Feeling better?

Yeah!
