Children’s Dental Day

Date – Friday, February 8, 2019

Location – Brooksville Family Health Center (300 S. Main St, Brooksville, FL 34601)
Description – “To bring awareness to National Children’s Dental Health Month in February, Premier Community HealthCare (Premier) is hosting its 4th annual Children’s Dental Day on Friday, Feb. 8 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at four of its health center locations in Pasco and Hernando counties. The event will provide a full day of free dental services for children under 18-years-old who are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
In addition to dental services, Premier will also provide games and educational activities for children, as well as provide free giveaways and prizes including kid-friendly oral hygiene supplies and community health resources.
Free dental services will be provided for uninsured children under age 18, and most insurance plans including Medicaid and Florida KidCare are accepted. Appointments must be made by calling 352-518-2000. Limited walk-in slots are available.”

PHSC TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN HOSTS STRIDES FOR EDUCATION 5K IN SPRING HILL

Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) Take Stock in Children (TSIC) for Hernando County will hold the sixth annual Strides for Education 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, February 2 at 8 a.m. at the PHSC Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court.
The event is part of a statewide effort to raise college funds for deserving middle and high school students in Hernando County. Proceeds from the annual TSIC 5K support the Hernando Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program. More than 60 Hernando County children have earned a life-changing scholarship through this innovative program.
Strides for Education 5K Walk/Run is open to all individuals, families, companies and local organizations. The event will feature family-friendly activities, giveaways, and much more. Advance registration is $30 per person; $35 day of the race. To register go to active.com and use the keyword: Take Stock. Diabetic Teaching & Support Education Series

Spring Hill, Florida (January 28, 2019) – Access Health Care Physicians, LLC offers an education series about diabetes mellitus to be held at Access Health Care, 5382 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, at 1 pm. The series is directed to anyone who has been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM) and family.
The series is conducted by Verna Pedersen Runyan, ARNP-C, CDE. Ms. Runyan is a graduate of Soumi College, Clinton Community College, State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and Community General Hospital, Nurse Practitioner Program, Syracuse, NY.
The next lecture in the series will be held on February 11, 2019 and is entitled “Food Combinations.”

Prominent Social Work Educator Keynotes Saint Leo University Conference on “Transformative Social Work: Solutions, Action, Hope”

Ruth Brandwein, PhD, MSW, has been nationally recognized for her leadership

ST. LEO – Saint Leo University’s graduate and undergraduate social work programs are sponsoring a one-day conference, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2019, for social workers, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, human service and criminal justice system professionals.
The conference keynote speaker, Dr. Ruth A. Brandwein, was the winner of the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for her decades of work advocating for children, the homeless, women and people of color, and for her lasting contributions to the ongoing professional training of social workers. She is now retired. Dr. Brandwein, along with faculty experts from Saint Leo University and from the broader community, will give presentations throughout the day on effective solutions to social problems. The theme of the conference is “Transformative Social Work: Solutions, Action, Hope.”
The content is appropriate for continuing education (CE) credits for professionals practicing in Florida (up to five CE credits), in Georgia, and in Virginia. Florida professionals are required to satisfy their continuing education credits by March 31.
