House fire in the City of Brooksville claims a life

(Brooksville, FL) at 7:14 p.m., Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to a reported residential fire at 821 Twigg Street. Initial reports from neighbors reported smoke and flames coming from the single-story residence.

The City of Brooksville Fire Department was on scene within five minutes. Persons on scene reported that there was a person inside the structure. Firefighters from the City of Brooksville Fire Department entered the structure and found the occupant, unfortunately the occupant was deceased. Fire-crews from Hernando County Fire Rescue and the City of Brooksville FireDepartment continued their work and extinguished the fire and confirmed that there were no other occupants in the structure.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation. Due to the civilian fatality, the State Fire Marshal has been contacted to investigate the scene.

One firefighter from the City of Brooksville Fire Department did sustain a heat exhaustion type injury. He was transported to Bayfront Brooksville Hospital for evaluation and observation.

HCFR units on scene included 2 fire engines, 2 rescues, and 2 battalion chiefs. The City of Brooksville Fire Department provided mutual aid with 1 fire engine and a District Chief for a total of 16 personnel on scene.

The victim in Sunday's fatal residential fire has been identified as Amos Dorvil, 55 years of age.

The investigation remains ongoing.
