On 01-24-19, Hernando County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to 8386 Evergreen Ave., Brooksville in reference to a physical altercation.
During the physical altercation, Jennifer Birkel, the victim, said her boyfriend, Trevor Schreffler, W/M DOB/04-20-1989, punched her in the face.
Birkel said when she regained consciousness after being punched she began screaming for help. Birkel said Schreffler would not allow her to leave the camper until she stopped screaming.
Prior to deputies arriving on scene, Schreffler barricaded himself inside the camper.
Schreffler indicated to deputies he wanted law enforcement to kill him or he would kill himself.
Cpl. Steven Miller along with K-9 Justice and two other deputies, proceeded to enter the camper in an attempt to locate Schreffler.
K-9 Justice alerted to Schreffler hiding in a bedroom within the camper.
Schreffler was located holding a black-colored semiautomatic pistol that was later determined to be a BB air pistol.
When Schreffler refused to drop the weapon, K-9 Justice bit Schreffler in the right ankle and deputies were able to take him into custody without further incident.
Schreffler was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a dog bite.
After being cleared medically, Schreffler was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center on charges of Domestic Battery, False Imprisonment, Aggravated Assault on LEO, and Resisting Officers without Violence.
He currently is being held without bond.
