On 04-20-20, Hernando County sheriff’s deputies responded to ABCD Self Storage located at 26367 Cortez Boulevard in reference to a Commercial Burglary.
One of the tenants reported that his storage unit was burglarized.

Once inside the unit, the suspects removed a large gun safe containing numerous firearms, cash, and the victim’s personal identification. No other storage units were targeted by the burglars.

The victim was able to provide the name of a possible suspect, Mikel McDonough W/M DOB/01-29-2000, who knew about the safe’s location and its contents.

Detectives reviewed surveillance video from 04-20-20 that showed two vehicles, a Jeep Liberty and a truck, enter the storage facility shortly after midnight. Both drivers pulled up to the victim’s storage unit where four individuals were seen exiting the truck. The other vehicle drove off out of view.

A few minutes later the four individuals are seen loading the safe onto the bed of the truck and then leaving.

04-22-20, detectives were able to locate McDonough at residence on Azen Loop in the Hill N Dale community.

McDonough was immediately taken into custody. During questioning he confessed to participating in the storage unit burglary. McDonough advised detectives of a residence on Aubrey Avenue in Hill N Dale where some of the stolen items might be located.

Detectives proceeded to the Aubrey Avenue location where they located the safe in the backyard, under a cover. Most of the safe’s contents were missing.

McDonough implicated other individuals involved in the burglary to include Tyron Ross B/M DOB/05-23-2003 and Keith Hunsinger W/M DOB/09-28-1989. Ross, who was located at a residence on Azen Loop, was also found in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest.

Cephus McBride B/M DOB/11-24-2000 and Demetrius Roberts B/M DOB/11-26-2003, who reside at the Aubrey Avenue residence where the stolen safe was located, told investigators they were picked up on 04-20-20 in a truck driven by Jordan Hudson, B/M DOB/03-15-2002.

Other passengers inside the vehicle included Ross, Lavarus Bates B/M DOB/02-19-2003 and Wallace Sermons III B/M DOB/07-20-2005.

The group met with McDonough and Hunsinger at a gas station on Spring Lake Highway to discuss the burglary before proceeding to ABCD Self Storage.

Hunsinger, who was riding with McDonough, used his pin number for the gate to gain entry into the storage facility. Both Hunsinger and McDonough left the property after allowing the truck to enter. Ross then used a hammer to break the lock and enter the storage unit.

Once in possession of the safe, all of the individuals involved in the burglary returned to a residence on Azen Loop. While attempting to unload the safe from the truck the suspects dropped it onto the road, causing the safe to break open.

Numerous stolen items were distributed among the group.

Hunsinger, a convicted felon, said he and McDonough proceeded to trade a stolen firearm to Tyler Danner W/M DOB/07-02-2000, for drugs.

The names of the four juveniles were released due to them being charged with felonies.
