Pasco Hernando State College took on State College of Florida, a Division I team on Feb. 8, 2019 at the PHSC West Campus in New Port Richey.  PHSC set a season record for no runs scored, keeping State College of Florida scoreless until the seventh inning.  Despite the remarkable effort, State College of Florida pulled off the win with 4 runs to none.

PHSC Sophomore Kyle Khachadourian owned the mound for six innings.

“Khach, (Kyle Khachadourian) he was a big pick up for us this year,” Head coach Lyndon Coleman said. “He was at his 77 pitches, so we want to make sure we slowly build him up, keep him fresh and healthy for the entire year.”

Sophomore Joey Delgatto took the mound at the top of the seventh to relieve Khachadourian.

“As much as you want to win early, it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and I am not going to put anybody in harm’s way early on in the season,” Coleman said. “Joey, that’s his role, where he’s going to come out in a tight ballgame in a big situation.”

Joey Delgatto and Kyle Khachadourian had successfully earned three strikeouts on State College.

Freshman Jermaine White dominated the outfield with six catches, but in-field errors beyond the 8th inning caused the Bobcats to give up three runs at the top of the ninth.

“I think it was mostly a defensive game,” Center Fielder Jermaine White said. “The ball just fell their way today.”

Saturday, February 9 at Seminole State College, the Bobcats gave the Raiders a solid competitive game. Raiders held their first six runs in the first inning to Bobcats 2 but gained three runs in the fifth. Even though Bobcats put four runs on the board during the sixth inning and obtained one more run at the top of the ninth, the Raiders closed the ninth to keep the three-run lead.  Raiders 9 – Bobcats 7.

The home game against St. Petersburg College on February 10 was canceled.

A huge win over Florida Southern JV on Monday, February 12, restored that feeling of victory for the Bobcats.  PHSC: 15, Florida Southern JV: 1
