A survey of economic development in the city of Brooksville

There are a number of construction projects either underway or in the planning stages in the city of Brooksville. The permit valuation from October 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019 was around $19 million. There were 111 residential permits during that time valued at more than $15 million. There were 70 commercial permits valued at more than $3 million. There were two demolition permits which removed around $550,000 in value. 

The Seagate Development on Wiscon Road behind Lowes has been approved for 88 homes. They currently have finished 13 homes and a model, with the rest under construction.

The new Zaxby’s on South Broad Street is in progress. It is 40% to 60% complete. Also on South Broad Street where the Golden Corral used to be located there is a 7-Eleven under construction. The construction of the 7-Eleven is going quickly.
Clover Leaf Farms, a 55 and older mobile home community, has started clearing the land for their new phase which includes 66 mobile home units. They just finished a Club House Remodel.

The Focus Fit gym, located in the Winn Dixie plaza on Broad Street is in process. They are hoping to open soon. They ran into some internal delays.

Flagstone Pavers has an expansion in the works. They are adding 1.55 acres to the existing 48.8 acres. Flagstone Pavers just completed a 43,000 square foot manufacturing facility.

The Milk-A-Way Farms property rezoning request is under review.  Located off of 41 adjacent to Cloverleaf, the property’s approved comprehensive plan amendment allows for a mixed-use development for up to 999 residential units and 100,000 square feet of commercial floor space.  The rezoning request has had some delays due to flooding concerns. 

There is development going on in Southern Hills Plantation. Lanier Homes has completed 7 homes. Inland Homes has 5 homes in progress and has completed 4 homes. Ressel, Inc has 1 home in progress.

The historic home now called Mirador Lodging House located at 302 South Brooksville Avenue is undergoing a commercial remodel.  They recently received the certificate of occupancy.

Lyle Wilson recently completed a major renovation of the historic old Coogler house at 137 Mt. Fair Ave.

Wilson, Mustang Homes and Armstrong Remodeling continue with residential build-outs on several properties within the city’s core area.

Freedom Gardens II off of Cortez Blvd and Freedom Way, recently completed four three story buildings which will provide 94 units.

A total of 34 new businesses started up in the city with an estimated employee count of 161 between Oct. 15, 2018 and June 27, 2019.
