Did you know that the University of Florida/IFAS Extension at Hernando County has a monofilament recycling program? Tubes have been installed at popular fishing spots throughout Hernando’s coast and are monitored by volunteers. These tubes provide a place to dispose of unwanted fishing line so it does not end up in the water or entangle marine and wildlife.

This year, fishermen disposed 6,512 feet of monofilament line in these tubes! After collection it is then vacuum sealed and off to be recycled.
