BOURASSA BLVD / COMMERICAL WAY

A Hernando County school bus was traveling northbound on Commercial Way in the outside lane. A 2104 Ford F150, being driven by Michael James Scott, 69, of Crystal River, was traveling northbound behind the school bus. At the intersection of Bourassa Boulevard, the school bus stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross the roadway prior to making a right turn onto Bourassa Boulevard. The Ford F150 failed to stop and collided with the rear of the bus. The impact propelled both vehicles forward to a final rest on Bourassa Boulevard. The driver of the Ford suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. At the time of the crash, the school bus was transporting 48 students en route to Winding Waters K-8 school located in Weeki Wachee. Seven of the students suffered minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals. The driver of the school bus Kathleen A Kay, 60 of Spring Hill did not suffer injuries. All lanes of US-19 are now OPEN. No charges were filed.
