Westside Elementary: ‘A’lways Fierce

Spring Hill, FL - Success is worthy of celebration. Our own Westside Elementary School decided to celebrate a colossal victory last weekend and opened that celebration to the public. There could not have been a better Friday evening spent, especially for the students, faculty, and parents of the school. On Aug. 10,  they all gathered together to celebrate earning an “A” grade from the FDOE (Florida Department of Education). Over 300 families attended the celebration, along with community members and school district staff.

Group effort in coastal restoration project

Weeki Wachee, FL- Volunteers flooded the park as torrents of rain came down at Linda Pederson Park on May 22, 2018. Students and helpers beat the Monday blues as they decided to invest their energy in aiding a worthy cause. Volunteers began working as early as nine, that morning. They removed the dead oxeye, lantana, rosary pea, and Brazilian pepper seedlings from the parks. Prepping the sites, as they labored through the downpours of the day, the early volunteers decided to cook hot dogs for the second round of helpers.

2nd Annual Mermaid Chase: A fun paddle for our marine resources

Weeki Wachee, FL- Spirits were high on Saturday, March 12, as the 27 participants awaited the 2nd annual Mermaid Chase. The event brought a flood of kayaks to Linda Pederson Park. This year, the paddling trail stretched for 3.5 miles. It was a new course and was even longer than the two mile trail from 2017. Because of the new length in miles, whoever placed 1st in the race would set a brand new record.
