Weapons Disturbance Results in Deputy-Involved Shooting 2/1/10

On 02-01-2020 at 2:33 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 5000 block of Golf Club Lane in Spring Hill (Silverthorn subdivision) regarding a Weapons Disturbance.

The 9-1-1 caller told the operator that a family member had a firearm and was threatening family members with it. Almost immediately, the caller told the 9-1-1 operator that the suspect was firing the weapon, inside the residence.

At some point prior to the arrival of the first deputy, the suspect shot a family member inside the residence (not the caller).

HCSO Deputy Rescues Passed Out Driver from Head-On Crash 1/25/20

On 01-25-20 just after 1 a.m., deputies responded to U.S. 41, just south of Lake Lindsay Road in Brooksville, in reference to a head-on collision.

Upon law enforcement’s arrival, one of the vehicles was on fire.

Upon further investigation, deputies learned the driver of the vehicle who caused the crash had yet to exit the burning vehicle.

K-9 Deputy Jason Jernigan immediately headed over to the vehicle, which was now almost fully engulfed in flames. Deputy Jernigan was able to remove the driver, who was passed out behind the wheel, from the burning vehicle.

Florida brothers pawn deer heads, $19k worth of items from rental home

The renters of a home in Brooksville allowed their adult sons Brian (49) and John Snakovsky Jr. (55) to also live at the home.  The parents eventually vacated the property, leaving just the brothers to reside there. Brian and John Jr. were evicted and the owners discovered that approximately 40 items were missing from the home valued over $19,000.

Marine deputies in the right place at the right time

“Luck,” or coincidence, plus the quick action of two Hernando County sheriff’s deputies prevented an accident from becoming a tragedy when they rescued a baby from the Weeki Wachee River last Friday afternoon Jan. 3, 2020. 

Steve Snell, a seasoned Marine Deputy was training another officer - Patrol Deputy Zachary Burkhart for the job. Both men were operating sheriff’s office personal watercraft (PWC) to patrol the river. 

Marine Deputies Rescue Infant from Overturned Canoe

On 01-03-20, Marine Deputy Steve Snell was training Patrol Deputy Zachary Burkhart the position of Marine Deputy on the Weeki Wachee River. Both deputies were operating the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office personal watercraft (PWC) to patrol the river, conduct watercraft stops, and check vessels for safety equipment.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., both deputies stopped in the area of the 2-mile marker to take a lunch break when they observed a canoe overturn.

Sheriff's Vice Unit Shuts Down Drug House

On 12-10-19, detectives with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Vice and Narcotics Unit with assistance from the Hernando County Sheriff’s S.W.A.T. Team executed a search warrant at 2279 Rio Circle in Spring Hill.

Deputies have responded to calls for service or initiated activity at this residence over 200 times since January 1, 2019. Most calls for service involved illegal drug activity or wanted persons.
