Elderly Woman Airlifted After Dog Attack and UPDATE

UPDATE

A Brooksville woman attacked early Monday morning by three pit bulls remains hospitalized at a local trauma center.

The woman, who is not being identified at this time, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the attack on Church Road.

The owner of the dogs, Ralph Hughes B/M DOB/12-03-63, was cited as follows:

- Public Nuisance Animal – Second Offense (3 counts) -- $900

- Unrestrained Animal (3 counts) -- $1,200.

Ten arrested on human trafficking charges

Sheriff Al Nienhuis was the first to speak at the press conference held on Friday, May 17, 2019.  He said,

“Oftentimes, when we hear ‘human trafficking,’ it’s easy for us to think of a very big city, and maybe the victims who were kidnapped from some foreign land and brought over here and forced to work in some sort of slave labor and prostitution.  But, unfortunately it’s not unusual to have individuals right here in the United States that are forced into this type of activity.”

Absconded Sexual Predator - William Haverty 5/10/19

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public in locating an Absconded Sexual Predator.

William Haverty
DOB/07-12-1963
Race – White
Sex – Male
Height – 6’1”
Weight – 200 pounds
Hair – Brown
Eyes – Blue

On this date at approximately 4 p.m., Haverty cut off his ankle monitor and fled from his home located at 11811 Broad Street in Brooksville, after learning of pending criminal charges.

Care Line Program Saves Another Life

Sheriff Al Nienhuis is pleased to report that the Care Line Program saved another life today.

Earlier today, when the 101-year-old Care Line client did not call in at her designated time, the Care Line clerks attempted to call her. The client did not answer.

After meeting with negative results when attempting to contact friends and neighbors (listed as emergency contacts), Care Line clerks requested a unit be dispatched to conduct a Well-Being Check on the client.

Update - Arrest Made - Spring Hill Man Sought for Dragging Dog Down Roadway

Update 5/9/19

On 05-08-19 just after 9 p.m., deputies conducting proactive patrols in the area of Commercial Way and the Outback Steakhouse observed a vehicle believed to be the one described in the BOLO (Be On the Look Out) for the animal cruelty incident (arrest warrant).

Deputy Vincent Spallino conducted a Traffic Stop on the green Ford F-150 at Frontage Road just off Commercial Way in front of the Microtel. The driver of the F-150 was identified as Gregory Tousignant.
