Internet cafes & gambling under scrutiny

Sheriff Al Nienhuis presented to the Board of County Commissioners on May 25, 2021 an item on area internet cafes and “simulated Gambling Devices and Internet Cafes.” Defined as an “educational presentation,”  no ordinances have been developed, and there was no vote on the subject.  The matter at this point is a dead issue, unless the board decides to resurrect it at a later time. 

Woman charged in auto theft

A Spring Hill woman is facing felony charges after being accused of stealing a car last week.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) , on April 8, law enforcement personnel stopped the driver of an allegedly stolen vehicle on Mariner Blvd. In Spring Hill. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the day.

Detectives Investigating Homicide in Spring Hill

On 02-22-2021 just before 10:30 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on Greenbrier Court in Spring Hill after having received information that a "dead body" was located there.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with three individuals inside the residence.  After speaking briefly with these individuals, the deputies were escorted through the residence.  Almost immediately, deputies discovered a male, who was deceased, in one of the rooms.  Obvious signs of homicidal violence were present.

Suspect in Custody After Stabbing at Mariner and Cortez

On 02-23-2021 just after 1 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff's deputies along with Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to the area of Mariner Boulevard and Cortez Boulevard (alongside the Walgreens) regarding a male on the ground, who was reportedly bleeding from his face.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a male on the sidewalk; the male was bleeding profusely from his upper body.

Preliminary investigation revealed the male had been stabbed.  Witnesses provided a description and direction of travel for the female suspect.
