Hernando Chapter FNPS Meeting and Public Program
Endemic Plants of the North Florida Panhandle
Presentation and Film by Bonnie Basham, President, Florida Native Plant Society
Wakulla, Liberty and Franklin counties are perhaps the most bio-diverse counties in Florida and our presenter will showcase some examples of this bounty. Ms. Basham will present a film created by two members of her Sarracenia chapter entitled “From the Ashes – The Pinelands in Spring.” This field trip was filmed in the Apalachicola National Forest and introduces you to 29 endemic plants found only in this area of the state. The attached plant list will help you follow along. You can view the film again at your leisure on YouTube.
About our presenter: Bonnie Basham has lived in Florida her entire life. She grew up in Orlando and was fortunate to have a grandmother who taught her the healing nature of gardening with native plants. Ms. Basham holds two Master’s degrees, from Stetson University: one in Education and one in Political Science. She lives outside Tallahassee with her husband Woody. They love to take long bike rides on the many wooded trails found in Leon and Wakulla counties and to garden in the rain.
