Following COVID-19 guidelines, Brooksville Farmers Market scheduled to open 4/1/2020

The Brooksville Farmers' Market is a local food market giving customers and community residents an alternative to standing at a packed store. They are making use of the mandated social distancing guidelines and limiting the number of people in the tent. They are also trying to support a local business that has laid off 22 people due to the COVID-19  pandemic.

DeSantis Urges Patience Amid Criticism of Jobless System

TALLAHASSEE --- Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday backed ongoing efforts to handle the surge of jobless claims caused by the novel coronavirus, as Democrats said more action is needed because of the state’s historically troubled unemployment-compensation system.

DeSantis repeated calls for people to be patient as the CONNECT claims system within the Department of Economic Opportunity has been inundated with new applications for benefits.

Ongoing Service to Campus and Community

At Pasco-Hernando State College, a single community service club has pledged to help students in need, regularly makes Easter baskets for kids at the Spring Hill Boys and Girls Club, recently completed work on a Habitat for Humanity house in Pasco, have made dinners at Hernando facilities that help the homeless and those struggling with addiction and mental illness, have donated to Dawn Center domestic and sexual violence center, and over the holidays spearheaded a 170-pound donation of food, clothes, and gifts for Metropolitan Ministries.

For the time being and in the interest of community health and safety, the Hernando County Public Library System is closed to the public. Patrons should be rest assured, however, that it is only the four brick and mortar library locations whose doors are locked to the public. Florida sets up second highway checkpoint

TALLAHASSEE --- Gov. Ron DeSantis on Saturday announced the creation of an Interstate 95 checkpoint on Florida's northern border to screen motorists traveling from the New York City area, in an effort to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Saturday's announcement came a day after DeSantis said he was setting up a similar checkpoint in Northwest Florida, targeting travelers from Louisiana.
