Businesses requiring vaccine passports will soon be fined

Beginning Sept. 16, businesses, government agencies or schools that require proof of vaccination – or so-called vaccine passports – from prospective patrons will be fined $5,000.

Issued on Aug. 27, the final  “Penalties for COVID-19 Vaccine Documentation Requirements” rule allows the Florida Department of Health (DOH) to issue a warning notice to any business entity found in violation of SB 2006. That legislation prohibits any business, government entity or educational institution operating in the state from requiring patrons, customers or visitors to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination or post-infection recovery.

Under the rule each violation of the law will result in a $5,000 fine for each individual or separate violation, the DOH said.

Gov. Ron DeSsantis signed SB 2006 into law in May. It became effective on July 1.
