Commissioners Vote on Maximum Millage Rate

Commissioners at the regular Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting on July 27, 2021, approved to maintain the maximum tentative millage rate of 9.4844. Property taxes will inherently increase because the property values themselves are going up and will reflect as such. “We know there’s an increase in the cost of goods, payroll …” Steve Champion explained. “Taxes will go up a little, because of value increases.”

Commissioners could choose to drop the millage rate to the roll-back rate which would bring in an equal amount of revenue as last year’s rate, but they cannot raise it beyond the tentative millage rate set at 9.4844.

On the school board side of the tax bill, which is separate from the county, there will be a noticeable increase since 62% of voters approved a 1 mill increase to support teacher salaries.

The county’s first public budget hearing is set for September 14th, 2021 at 5:01 PM in the Board Chambers.
