Two Doctors, Friends set to retire

Doctors Mark Denner and David Miller of Access Medical Group Will Retire

Doctors Mark Denner and David Miller, both Doctors of Osteopathy (DO) thank their patients and staff as they plan their retirement.  “They have made it not only possible, but enjoyable,"  the doctors remarked.

Visiting with the two doctors in their office with an underwater mural spanning floor to ceiling, and on three walls, Dr. Miller said, “No one’s stressed in Key West.”  The building’s architecture is of the same design.

In 1986, Miller and Denner became instant friends early in medical school, finding seats next to each other during a confusing first day of class.  Friends, then colleagues since, the two Brooksville-based doctors opened their practice in Brooksville in 1993.

Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Denner worked as a Physician Assistant in Brooksville beginning in 1976.  “I delivered a lot of babies,” he said, describing his role in a busy obstetrics practice at the time.

Some of those mothers still see Dr. Denner.  He laughs as he explains that his name appears on a RoloDex on display in the May-Stringer house.

Since opening their practice, Dr. Miller has missed exactly 24 hours of work in 27 years.  Hard to imagine, since he coached his children’s little league teams; one for his two sons and one for his daughter.  He recalled that over the years, he would be asked how he managed to run a medical practice and coach two teams.  His answer: “How could I miss it?”

Dr. Miller served as an Eagle Scout before his undergraduate years.

Dr. Denner served in the Army National Guard during his time in practice.  Deployed twice (once to Afghanistan, once to Iraq), he was genuinely impressed with the acceptance and support he received from his staff and patients.  He achieved the rank of Full Colonel.

Miller’s plan for his retirement is largely to spend time with his grandson, who lives in Brooksville.  Denner has grandchildren as well, and plans to spend his time spoiling them of course.
