Got Clutter?

Who, amongst us, hasn’t tuned in to those home improvement television programs where, in an hourlong show, a home is transformed into “house beautiful” with a place for everything and everything in its place?

The presenters make it look so easy but, in reality, it’s not that simple. Some of us are just not naturally organized or capable of tackling what to do with all of our “stuff.”  So, just as accountants prepare our taxes; Realtors help us buy or sell a home; or lawyers who take care of our personal matters; a professional organizer can help us to declutter our homes and give guidance on how to keep them decluttered.

“It’s not just a case of buying some containers and then sifting through items to keep, trash or donate,” said Michelle Winarsky, a Professional Organizer and owner of Organizing in a Snap. “Some people don’t know how to get organized or where to start; they’re overwhelmed and stressed or they simply don’t have the time or inclination to do it themselves,” she said.

She explained it’s more about getting to know people, helping them move past their bad habits, and make progress not just with their “stuff,” but with their lives too.  Professional organizers can definitely help in these situations, but there’s a lot more to the profession than that.

Michelle Winarsky has been a licensed mental health counselor since 1999 and her credentials also include some 18,000 plus hours of professional organizing experience in the last 6 years alone.

For some,  organizing their spaces may be a lifelong issue. Not only does Michelle work with those who have chronic disorganization issues but she also works with those who have a hoarding disorder if they are ready for help. It can be starting with one room or organizing the entire house at a pace that is manageable for the client. 

For others, it might simply be purging their paperwork and setting up files or organizing their closets. Numbers of sessions are planned based on the client’s time and budget.

“My focus is not only to help clients get organized or decluttered,” said Winarsky. “My goal is to help my clients find simple solutions so they can easily maintain their spaces after my work is done” she said.

Over the years, Organizing in a Snap has built a bank of resources to call upon to solve clients’ challenges. “I work closely with professional movers and junk haulers, handymen, contractors and trades people of all types, supply companies for organizing, moving and storage products, as well as a long list of auction and consignment stores in order to sell things for clients that they no longer need,” Winarsky said. “Since I’ve developed relationships with a lot of these companies, I can get excellent discounts for my clients.”  “I like to repurpose items when possible and when it isn’t, donate to over 15 local charities, said Winarsky.
