We are settling in to our new office space at the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce building located at 15588 Aviation Loop Drive in Brooksville.
It was a frantic few weeks ordering office furniture, assembling office furniture, then unassembling it because we missed a step or because it was damaged and didn’t notice at first. It always takes longer to repackage office furniture to ship back than it does to unpack it.
During this process we learned that it is impossible to find real wood furniture that is affordable- everything is manufactured wood or particle board and it’s typically made in China. We went into a chain furniture store looking for a bookshelf. Ten years ago, this store manufactured everything in Tupelo, Mississippi. We asked the salesman if that is still the case and he bluntly said that it’s all China now.
So, we have some Chinese representation in our new office, but for the most part it’s used furniture from family members.
We opened this space to better serve you. After 5 years in operation, it was time to add an additional office. During the first five years, our home office has served us well, but it was time to open another office that is more available to the public.
Having an office in the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce building will also make us more available to business leaders in the community.
The hours of this office are yet to be decided, but we plan on being there most days except Wednesday.
Many of our contributors work from home and our reporters are often in the field.
So if you’d like to stop by and meet us, please call and make an appointment. The phone number is 352-238-5454.
