During May of 2016, a package containing numerous individual packets of Heroin was intercepted by U.S. Postal inspectors in New Jersey.  The package, which weighed roughly 13 pounds, was being shipped to an address in Spring Hill, FL.

Investigation revealed that Kelvin Johnson resided at the address the package was being shipped to.

Hernando County Vice and Narcotics detective facilitated a controlled purchase of the Heroin from Johnson.

During January of 2017, Johnson and other individuals traveled to New Jersey and back within a 48-hour time period.

During the 48-hour time period, three packages were shipped from New Jersey to an address in Spring Hill, FL.  Investigation revealed that the three packages contained miscellaneous items, Cocaine, and Heroin.  One package contained a total of 5,000 individually wrapped glassine packets, each being a single dose of Heroin.  Each of the packets was stamped with pictures of President Donald Trump, El Chapo, or Pablo Escobar.  Another package contained approximately 27 grams of Cocaine.

Detectives identified Johnson’s source of supply as well as numerous individuals who were distributing narcotics for Johnson in Hernando County.

The culmination of this nationwide investigation resulted in the arrest of Kelvin Johnson.  After standing trial, Kelvin Johnson B/M DOB/11-01-1970 was found guilty on all charges and was recently sentenced to 35 years in prison.  Johnson’s charges were as follows:
–       Trafficking in Heroin
–       Sell/Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (two counts)
–       Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (two counts)
–       Racketeering
–       Possession of a Two-Way Communication Device to Facilitate a Felony
–       Habitual Driving While License Suspended/Revoked (two counts).

In order to be most effective in prosecuting cases such as this, detectives must rely on support from and cooperation with the State Attorney’s Office.  We are pleased to say, we have both.  The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work hand-in-hand with the State Attorney’s Office of the Fifth Judicial Circuit to remove drugs and drug dealers from the streets of Hernando County.
