(Brooksville, FL) The Hernando County Environmentally Sensitive Lands Program will be conducting a 120-acre prescribed burn today at Lake Townsen Preserve, located at 28011 Lake Lindsey Road in Brooksville, with cooperative assistance from the Florida Forest Service (see map below).

This prescribed burn will be conducted to reduce excess vegetative fuels and improve the ecological health of the natural sandhill vegetative community. Smoke warning signs will be posted on CR-476 as necessary. Area residents and travelers may see or smell smoke in the air throughout the duration of the burn.

Due to this scheduled burn, all equestrian trails at Lake Townsen will be closed for the next several days. Signage will be posted at the preserve to notify trail users of this temporary closure.

Contact the Hernando County Planning Department at (352) 754-4057 for more information.
