Serving up Delicious Eats One Rib at a Time

Eric Riggins, Sr. is just one of many successful entrepreneurs in Hernando County. He established his catering business, Smoking Good BBQ, in March of 2017 and officially launched his “brick and mortar” restaurant last April.

Opening up a restaurant in the midst of a pandemic was a gutsy move for Riggins, but in the past ten months he has built up a loyal clientele.

“When the pandemic hit our county we were wondering what was next for us and our business. As believers, we began to pray and ask God for his guidance and we would follow His lead. We began looking for a building, because that is what was needed at the time to be able to keep our business going. We found the building where we are located and we believe it was definitely God-sent,” says Riggins.

This entrepreneur is a “local boy who made good.” He was born and raised in Brooksville and graduated from Hernando High School in 1996. Riggins received a full scholarship to play college football.

“Once I came back from college I got involved with youth sports because I believe sports helped save my life and sports will save another kid. I’m all about the kids.”

Riggins and his wife Stephanie have three sons – Eric, Jr.; Xavier and Isaiah. All of them have a hand in running the business. In his spare time, he coaches football and track.

His attractive building is located on Highway 50 next to Blanches. Smoking Good BBQ’s specialties are ribs and southern style Macaroni and Cheese. They also have a thriving catering business.

“Our catering services include preparing, drop off, or we will serve it. It’s the customer’s choice,” Riggins remarks.

Not content with just one location, Riggins plans to open up another restaurant in Spring Hill in the near future. He realizes that the most important “ingredient” in any business is the customer.

“We would like to say Thanks to everyone who has stopped by and supported our business so far. We can’t say how much we really appreciate it.”

Smoking Good BBQ is located at 25149 Cortez Blvd. and is open 10:30 am – 6:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday and 10:30 am – 7:00 pm Friday and Saturday. They are closed on Sunday and Monday.
