Nine Individuals Arrested in Connection with Brooksville Storage Unit Burglary

On 04-20-20, Hernando County sheriff's deputies responded to ABCD Self Storage located at 26367 Cortez Boulevard in reference to a Commercial Burglary.
One of the tenants reported that his storage unit was burglarized.

Once inside the unit, the suspects removed a large gun safe containing numerous firearms, cash, and the victim's personal identification. No other storage units were targeted by the burglars.

In 2016, it was determined the victim suffered from both physical and mental impairments which led to a lack of self-care and the inability to handle his own finances. 
In July of 2016, a Power of Attorney was appointed to oversee the victim's personal and financial matters; however, the victim continued to live in his own home.  In mid-2017, the victim was no longer able to live alone and moved in with the suspect, Joan Marie Procida Milligan. 

Importing China Citrus Causes Florida Heartburn

TALLAHASSEE --- Voicing support for the state’s struggling citrus industry, Florida Republicans and Democrats are opposing a federal decision to allow the importation of certain fruits from China.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and U.S. Sen. Rick Scott on Tuesday sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue asking him to reverse a decision to let five varieties of citrus fruits be imported from China.

All Hernando County park and beach locations to re-open to the public

(Brooksville, FL) At the Tuesday, April 28, 2020 regular Board of County Commission (BOCC) meeting, the BOCC voted to re-open all Hernando County park and beach locations, including Alfred McKethan/Pine Island Park and Rogers Park beach area, for public use beginning Wednesday, April 29, 2020. The State of Florida unemployment numbers for the month of March 2020 were released by the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) on Friday April 17, 2020. The numbers do not necessarily reflect the full impact COVID-19 has had on state employment rates as many of the regulations and closures started mid March.

According to the DEO, “Florida saw expected changes in employment and unemployment data due to COVID-19 and the state’s effort to mitigate the spread.”
