Session Announcement - Civilian Response to Active Shooter – February and March

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting two information sessions on Civilian Response to Active Shooter. Events in recent years have called attention to the need to be prepared for a wide range of emergencies. Communities across the country have reassessed their level of preparedness and established broader training and education programs.

Man Killed in Helicopter Accident at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport

On 01-10-19 at about 3:35 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff's deputies responded to 16308 Flight Path Drive in Brooksville in reference to a death investigation.

The caller stated he and another individual were using a power cart to jumpstart a helicopter when, for an unknown reason, the helicopter suddenly jerked up and then came down.

This motion caused the main rotor blades to strike one of the men, who was working on the helicopter, in the head.

The man, who has been identified as Salvatore Disi W/M DOB/04-16-1956, was killed instantly.

Efforts of Deputies and Telecommunicators Help Save Suicidal Woman

On 01-07-19 Hernando County Sheriff's deputies were called to a residence in Spring Hill regarding a suicidal female.

Upon arrival, deputies met with the caller who advised the female left the residence on foot, earlier, to "cool off" after having a disagreement with someone in the residence.

After being gone for over 30 minutes, the female began sending text messages to persons back at the residence, indicating she wanted to commit suicide.  She refused to provide her location and/or answer any incoming calls.

Detectives Need Help Identifying Deceased Man

On 01-05-18 just after 6 a.m., Hernando County deputies responded to reports of a "Man Down" in the middle of the roadway, on the frontage road in front the St. Lucy Plaza in Spring Hill.

Upon arrival, it was determined the male was already deceased.

Initially, deputies believed the male had been a victim of a Hit and Run.  On-scene investigation ruled out Hit and Run, as there were no obvious signs of injury on the body and no evidence of a crash.

It is believed the male suffered a medical episode and fell to the ground, where he was located just after 6 a.m.

Habitual Retail Theft Suspect Targeted Walmart Stores More Than 20 Times in November

A Spring Hill woman with a history of retail theft convictions was recently arrested by Hernando County Sheriff's deputies for committing more than 20 retail/petit thefts at two Hernando County Walmart stores during the month of November.

Michele Lindsay Bowen, W/F DOB/05-04-1980, was first arrested in Hernando County on 11-27-18 on two counts of Retail Theft, which is a felony due to her prior convictions.

Bowen was stopped by loss prevention officers while shopping at the Walmart located at 13300 Cortez Blvd., in Brooksville.

Shooting - 813 Twigg Street

On 01-03-19 just after 11 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff's deputies and Hernando County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a reported Shooting at 813 Twigg Street in Brooksville.

Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, later identified as Thomas Holland, sitting in a chair in the middle of the street, near 813 Twigg Street.  Holland had been shot in the leg.  Holland was not cooperative with the investigation.

Holland was transported to a local trauma center for treatment of the gunshot wound(s).

UPDATE -- HCSO Investigates Shooting at Mermaids Lounge in Spring Hill

On 12-29-18 at 6:38 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an Agency Assist at the Florida Highway Patrol substation located at 17028 Ayers Road, in Brooksville.

Roberto Rivera-Santiago, H/M DOB/09-26-1974, a suspect in the 12-27-18 shooting at Mermaids Lounge, 4658 Commercial Way, in Spring Hill, had turned himself in to Troopers on an active Hernando County warrant for Attempted Murder and a Domestic Injunction Violation.

HCSO Investigates Shooting at Mermaids Lounge in Spring Hill

On 12-27-18 at 11:14 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville in reference to a shooting victim who was dropped off at the hospital’s emergency room.

When deputies arrived, they located a 29-year-old black male at the ER who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He is currently being treated by medical personnel for his injuries. Deputies were able to determine the shooting occurred at Mermaids Lounge, 4658 Commercial Way, in Spring Hill.

Tow To Go

AAA’s Tow to Go program is once again fully operational and available!

Offering free, confidential rides to both AAA Members and non-members, the program aims to prevent impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel and risking the lives of other motorists.

The responding AAA tow truck will transport a vehicle and driver home, or somewhere safe, within 10 miles of the pickup location. This service is offered until 6 A.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
