UPDATE -- HCSO Investigates Shooting at Mermaids Lounge in Spring Hill

Date: December 29, 2018


On 12-29-18 at 6:38 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an Agency Assist at the Florida Highway Patrol substation located at 17028 Ayers Road, in Brooksville.

Roberto Rivera-Santiago, H/M DOB/09-26-1974, a suspect in the 12-27-18 shooting at Mermaids Lounge, 4658 Commercial Way, in Spring Hill, had turned himself in to Troopers on an active Hernando County warrant for Attempted Murder and a Domestic Injunction Violation.

On 12-27-18 at 11:14 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville in reference to a shooting victim who was dropped off at the hospital’s emergency room.

When deputies arrived, they located a 29-year-old black male at the ER who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He is currently being treated by medical personnel for his injuries. Deputies were able to determine the shooting occurred at Mermaids Lounge, 4658 Commercial Way, in Spring Hill.

AAA’s Tow to Go program is once again fully operational and available!

Offering free, confidential rides to both AAA Members and non-members, the program aims to prevent impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel and risking the lives of other motorists.

Drug Dealer Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison and Fined Almost Two Million Dollars

In March of 2017, Hernando County Vice and Narcotics detectives received information that Robert Moore of Brooksville was selling large amounts of prescription pills, out of his residence.

An investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, narcotics detectives facilitated multiple hand-to-hand, controlled purchases, for pills and other controlled substances, from Robert Moore at his residence.

Vigilant Citizen Alerts Deputies to Vehicle Burglaries

During the early morning hours of 12-19-18, a vigilant citizen contacted the Hernando County Sheriff's Office to report four individuals stealing Christmas lights and committing vehicle burglaries in the Villages of Avalon.  District Two patrol deputies were dispatched to the area.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a black SUV leaving the subdivision at a high rate of speed.  As deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the SUV, the driver fled.  While in the process of fleeing from deputies, the driver went off the roadway, disabling the vehicle.

Update #2 - Suspect In Custody - HCSO Detectives Continue Investigating Shooting

Working tirelessly on this investigation since the morning of 12-14-18, detectives received information this morning that Jose Carrasquillo was in New Jersey.

Hernando County detectives contacted, and remained in communication with, authorities in New Jersey to facilitate the arrest of Carrasquillo.

Carrasquillo was taken into custody this afternoon at a motel in Elizabeth, N.J., by the officers at Elizabeth Police Department.

Update - HCSO Detectives Continue Investigation into Circle K Shooting

Detectives have released the name of the individual wanted in connection with this incident.

A warrant for the arrest of Jose Arturo Carrasquillo H/M DOB/11-24-1981 has been issued.  Carrasquillo will be charged with Aggravated Battery w/a Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm when he is located.

Additionally, Carrasquillo is a Registered Sex Offender, currently in violation of the terms of his release.  An additional felony warrant is forthcoming later today to address the violation.

Heroin Dealer Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison

During May of 2016, a package containing numerous individual packets of Heroin was intercepted by U.S. Postal inspectors in New Jersey.  The package, which weighed roughly 13 pounds, was being shipped to an address in Spring Hill, FL.

Investigation revealed that Kelvin Johnson resided at the address the package was being shipped to.

Hernando County Vice and Narcotics detective facilitated a controlled purchase of the Heroin from Johnson.

During January of 2017, Johnson and other individuals traveled to New Jersey and back within a 48-hour time period.
