The regular season for prep football in Hernando County is finally over for Hernando, Nature Coast, Weeki Wachee, Central, and Springstead as they finish the 2020 campaign this week. All five of Hernando County’s squads will be in action for the postseason and the Sharks, Hornets, Leopards, Bears, and Eagles hope to advance a little closer to playing near Thanksgiving week. Game of the Week

Four games are on the slate this Friday night when Hernando County football teams take the field and among all of the matchups taking place, the most intriguing one looks to be over in Weeki Wachee. That’s where the undefeated Nature Coast Sharks will travel to face the improving Weeki Wachee Hornets in a game that has shaped up into being a competitive contest. The last time Nature Coast and Weeki Wachee stepped on the field together was in 2019, when the Sharks came away with an easy 42-0 victory. Nature Coast is coming off a very close call in a 28-21 victory over Crystal River.

The former head Eagle is back at Springstead but this time as an assistant coach under Mike Garofano. Athletic director Dustin Kupcik and the school made the announcement via Twitter in an article and below is the statement put on the hiring of Vonada.

Though the last time a prep football team stepped onto the field was back in November 2019, there’s still some debate on who was the coach and players of the year. Here at the Hernando Sun, we covered Central, Hernando, Nature Coast, Springstead, and Weeki Wachee all season long.  We also covered Hernando Christian Academy’s six-man football. Hernando County saw two teams advance into the Florida High School Athletic Association playoffs and those clubs had some of the top players in the county.
