A proposed measure would allow County authorities to investigate complaints against landlords who allegedly retaliate against tenants after they file housing code violation reports.
LAKELAND, Fla., Jan. 5, 2021 — At a press conference this afternoon, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a collaboration between Publix and the Florida Department of Health to distribute approximately 15,000 doses of the Moderna COVID‑19 vaccine to customers ages 65 and older. The vaccine will initially be available at 22 stores in Citrus, Hernando and Marion counties.
We missed many of the major stories for 2020 in our predictions, but one would have needed a wild imagination to see a pandemic and nationwide shutdown on the horizon. 2020 was an unpredictable year to say the least and we did not see that coming.
At the December 21, 2020 Brooksville City Council meeting, Assistant Public Works Director and Project Manager Jon Dowler discussed the 3.5 mile biking and walking trail that actually ties together the Coast To Coast Connector, which forms a contiguous trail linking Florida’s west coast in Pinellas County to Titusville on east coast.

A year and a half after they were charged with operating a human trafficking ring, the cases of two men have been closed and those of seven others will come before the 5th Judicial Court of Florida in Hernando County again in February.
Dozens of local people were saddened to hear the news that beloved author, actor, playwright, blogger, and storyteller Jerry Cowling passed away on December 26, 2020, after a brief hospital stay. The cause of death was sepsis as a result of a gastrointestinal infection. Cowling is survived by his son, Joshua of Spring Hill; his daughter, Heather Cowling Dobkowski; son-in-law Anthony and grandchildren Olivia and Liam Dobkowski of Wappingers Falls, New York. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 44 years, Janet.

Those 65 years of age and older and anyone who resides or works in a long term care facility will top the priority list for receiving COVID-19 vaccinations under an Executive Order issued by Gov. Ron DeSantis last week. Health care personnel who have direct contact with patients also get priority under the order.

The Sumter County Preservation Society did not exist when Della Daughtry started the Wild Cow Prairie Cemetery project. Della is an independent citizen and freelance artist who wanted to save the forgotten cemetery in Sumter County and ensure it was being taken care of.
Della and her husband John Daughtry started going out to the Wild Cow Prairie Cemetery to take photos, research, and eventually wrote historical nominations for the cemetery that has gone to the state and national registries.
